Mesa Verde House

Dripping Spring, TX

Located in the bucolic Texas Hill Country near Austin, this dwelling stretches along a limestone bluff overlooking Barton Creek.  We arranged the program into four volumes which are staggered on the site to provide a variety of outdoor spaces.  A simple palette of local limestone, composite wood and natural stucco blends into the arid landscape of cedar trees and brush.  The large entry and deck canopies allow relief from the Texas sun and ample space to entertain.  Each roof is equipped with a rainwater harvesting system that reduces the dependency on groundwater.  Large windows are shaded by trellis shades to maintain an intimate connection with the land throughout the day.

In collaboration with D&A Companies.

The exterior stonework continues through into the entry and main fireplace hearth, blending the inside and outside.  A warm palette of neutral tones and natural materials is illuminated by the floor-to-ceiling window wall of the great room, which contains the main kitchen, dining area and living space.
